Holon is an island region with special magnetic properties. The city of Holon lies at its center. There are only eight Pokemon native to the island: Voltorb, Electrode, Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Nosepass, Probopass, and Castform. Thse are the only Pokemon not affected by delta rays.
The Holon research tower was constructed in an effort to find Mew, who is believed to live in the Mirage Forest. The tower taps into the island's magnetic properties and pumps out electromagnetic rays. When people started coming to the island, they found that the Pokemon they brought near the tower started to change – these changed Pokemon became known as delta species.
They also discovered that the radiation had been affecting Pokemon, not just in the city, but all over the region. Immediately, Holon became a hotspot for trainers. Delta species Pokemon were powerful and mysterious, after all; where else could you find a Kingdra that could use Flamethrower, or an electric-type Pidgeot? While some experts believed that the delta rays could be harmful to both Pokemon and humans alike, their concerns were stifled by the profits made from turning the islands into a tourist attraction.
But, still, the researchers were unable to find what they'd originally set out for: Mew.
It wasn't long before Team Rocket caught wind of this, and so they came to the island as well.
The researchers realized that something had to be done to protect Mew from Team Rocket, so they formed the Holon league. As well as placing a capable gym leader in every major area of Holon, this would encourage the trainers that came to the island to become more powerful themselves.
What will be the long-term effects of delta radiation? Where is Mew? Who will be the next Holon champion? All questions that must be answered in time.
